Preparing for Your Appointment: Before performing the notarial act it is required to certify the signer(s)/affiant(s) identity, and their willingness to sign or take an oath. The notarial certificate verifies the truth of the notarial act. It will have a notary seal or notary stamp and is valid in the eyes of the law. Each signer or affiant must provide acceptable identification. Acceptable identification is that which is issued by a state or federal agency, (or national agency if home country is outside of the USA), contains a picture of the signer or affiant, is unexpired, clearly displays signer/affiant signature, and provides a description of the same (e.g. weight, hair, eyes, sex, etc.). Remember to bring all documents that require a notarized signature! To help your notarization appointment go more quickly, you may enter necessary fields, however, DO NOT SIGN ANY FORMS UNTIL YOU ARE IN THE PRESENCE OF THE NOTARY AND IDENTIFICATION HAS BEEN PRESENTED TO THE NOTARY. Signing the document outside of the presence of the notary is unlawful. For documents that require multiple signatures, have all parties present for the signing with his/her unexpired identification. This will expedite the process and avoid additional rescheduling fees.
